Sunday afternoon Yintangles Group – Noel Christmas Card with Faux Calligraphy

Hi and welcome back to the Chrissie Murphy Designs Blog. I thought I’d share another tile from the Sunday Afternoon Yintangles Group I’m a member of. On Sunday 21 November, 2022, I lead our little group in creating a Noel Christmas Card with Faux Calligraphy. Let’s have a deeper look at it.

We began with the foundations of calligraphy

Even though we focused on Faux Calligraphy, an understanding of the foundations of calligraphy was required.

These foundations form the process that underpins Faux Calligraphy, so it was great to explain these principles. We spent some time working through a few test words to warm ourselves up in preparation for our cards.

Then it was all about composition

Composition was a necessary component for the Noel Christmas Card. We took some time to define the shapes that would contain our sentiment and tangling. Positioning these well on the tile is important, as it guides the placement of the faux calligraphy.

We completed our Faux Calligraphy next

Across the bottom of the triangle (which guides our tree placement) we used Faux Calligraphy.

We all wrote the Noel sentiment across our tiles and then the foundations of calligraphy we learned earlier were applied. We created beautiful faux calligraphy that looks amazing!

Lastly we tangled our Noel Christmas Card

The Noel Christmas Card we were making used 4 tangles;

Starawn formed the star at the top of the tree. Sand Swirl formed the bulk of the tree. Arckles was used for the bucket the tree was in and Tipple was used to mimic snow falling beside the tree. All in all, it was a fairly simple design.

A very big thank you to Michelle Dugdale, CZT for preparing the class mosaic. Michelle prepares it for us every month and does such a wonderful job.

You can see everyone’s tiles in the mosaic. Don’t they look amazing! The ones with colour look fantastic!

And here we all are in our Class together. Another thank you to Michelle for taking the class screenshot. And a big thank you to Yvonne Rein, CZT for hosting another great monthly catch-up.
