Hi and welcome back to the Chrissie Murphy Designs Blog. This week’s Magnified Fragment is F7. So without further ado, let’s get into it and have a look at the enhancer we’ll be using. I’ve also included links to some resources you might find helpful for this week.

This Week’s Magnified Fragment is F7
Here’s a quick sketch of what the fragment looks like as a reference for you.
This week’s Magnified Fragment Enhancer is NO Shading!
This week’s Magnified Fragment Enhancer is to have NO shading!
I was inspired by @Kath.Artique this week. A piece she recently completed had lots of blocks of colour with strong linework overlaying it. There was no shading. It was just paint and a black marker.
We’ll try to do the same. I’ve chosen to use ink and Tombow Markers for mine. You can use whatever you have, but don’t use graphite pencil or white chalk pencil to apply shading.
This is really challenging. I found it messed with my brain’s understanding of when a tile is done! I felt like I was stepping away with a half finished tile!
But that’s exactly what this week’s enhancer is about. No shading! Geometric Abstract Art has some great examples of the technique we’re employing this week
Make sure you check out the links below for some great examples.

Some examples to help you with this week’s Magnified Fragment
First up, check out Kath.Artique’s piece that inspired this week’s challenge. Notice how it’s blocks of colour, but there is no shading, just linework and some embellishment.
Google’s Art and Culture Centre has a great write up about Geometric Abstract Art. We’re using some similar aspects, so this is worthwhile checking out. Take note… no shading.
Kim Dellow, Mixed Media Artist has some great examples of no shading using Doodle Art. You can check out an example of it below.
Hopefully this gives you some ideas of how to tangle for this weeks fragment.
Don’t forget
If you have any ideas for an enhancer, leave me a comment and we’ll feature them in upcoming fragments.
It’s never to late to join in, the more the merrier. Just tag your tile with #MagnifiedFragments and I’ll see it, share it and add it to our gallery.
