Hi and welcome back to the Chrissie Murphy Designs Blog. This week’s Magnified Fragment is F6. So without further ado, let’s get into it and have a look at the enhancer we’ll be using. I’ve also included links to some resources you might find helpful for this week.

Here’s a quick sketch of what the fragment looks like as a reference for you.

This week’s Magnified Fragment Enhancer is to use Pointillism and/or Stippling

This week’s Magnified Fragment Enhancer is to use Pointillism and/or Stippling

This enhancer was suggested to us by Claudia Caro, CZT of Take Your Tangle and I think it’s a great technique for us to explore.

Wikipedia describes Pointillism like this;

Pointillism is a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of color are applied in patterns to form an image.

Wikipedia

And Wikipedia describes Stippling like this;

Stippling is the creation of a pattern simulating varying degrees of solidity or shading by using small dots.

Wikipedia

There’s a difference between the two and you can choose whichever enhancer you’d prefer to work with.

  1. Use dots to form the fragment – Pointillism; OR
  2. Use dots to shade the fragment – Stippling.

I’m going to be working with Stippling. This means I will be using lots of dots to shade my fragment.

Make sure you check out the resources below for some great examples.

I’ve also found that Margaret Bremner, CZT of the Enthusiastic Artist also has a great article on Stippling. You can read it here.

A fantastic example of Pointillism in Zentangle is detailed in this blog post by KNM. Read it here.

And lastly, Laura Harms, CZT of I am the Diva previously held a challenge where Pointillism was explored. Her blog post is a great one to check out. It’s here.
