Hi and welcome back to the Chrissie Murphy Designs Blog. Last weekend was truly something special. I had the privilege of being part of Artists of the North, a vibrant art exhibition hosted by the Cairns Art Society at the incredible Tanks Arts Centre in Cairns. The exhibition brought together a wonderfully diverse group of local artists. And I was both thrilled and humbled to have two of my artworks on display.

Two pieces on display
The two pieces I exhibited were The Mother of Good Counsel Church in Innisfail and The Boatramp at The Coconuts. Both are pieces from my Buildings of the Cassowary Coast Collection. Seeing them hanging in such a unique and atmospheric venue—surrounded by so much amazing local talent—was a bit surreal. Even more amazing is seeing people pause in front of your work to take it in, and connect with it in their own way.

The perfect backdrop for the Artists of the North Exhibition
The Tanks Arts Centre, was the perfect backdrop for the Artists of the North Exhibition. As I wandered around I was struck by the sheer variety of styles and subjects—everything from bold, abstract pieces to finely detailed portraits and landscapes to thought-provoking sculptures. The creativity on show was inspiring and the venue was perfect for it. It blew me away to see just how much talent we have here in Far North Queensland.
One of the best parts of the night was chatting with other artists and finally getting to meet some of the artists I had connected with online. There was such a warm atmosphere throughout the exhibition. I loved hearing the stories behind some of the pieces my friends had exhibited.

The Cairns Art Society are amazing!
The Cairns Art Society did a fantastic job bringing the Artists of the North Exhibition all together. The exhibition was beautifully curated, and everything ran so smoothly thanks to the dedication of those who volunteered and organised. It’s a credit to them all.
You can still visit…
To anyone who came along—thank you. Your support means the world. And if you haven’t had a chance to visit yet, you can still stop by the Artists of the North Exhibition between now and 11 May, 2025. Whether you’re an artist, an art lover, or just looking for a bit of inspiration, it’s a beautiful celebration of creativity and community that is not to be missed.
You can also shop the exhibition online through the Exhibition Shop that has been set up by the Cairns Art Society. The two pieces I exhibited are on display and are available for purchase.
