Hi and welcome back to the Chrissie Murphy Designs Blog. This is the first post in a series I’m doing that looks back at 2022. Today I’m sharing My Top 10 Favourite Tangle Patterns of 2022. So let’s get into it and have a look at the tangle patterns I fell in love with this year.
In Position 10 is Mooka 3D by Eni Oken, CZT
Over the years Mooka 3D by Eni Oken, CZT has been one of my Mac and Cheese tangles. I keep using it and I keep coming back to it over and over again. 2022 has been no different.

In Position 9 is OAura by Lin Chiu, CZT
I discovered OAura by Lin Chiu, CZT in Session 7 of Tangle Index Time. Since then I’ve gone on to use it plenty. I love the dimension it adds (in ribbon form) to a tile.

In Position 8 is Nzeppel by Zentangle®
I fell in love with Nzeppel by Zentangle® again after working through the Primer this year. It seemed like I was creating tiles where this was going to be the perfect fill. It added contrast, it added light, it added exactly what I needed every time.

In Position 7 is not a tangle pattern but Embedded Letters by Zentangle®
Although it’s not a pattern, Embedding Letters has steps just like a tangle pattern. Zentangle® developed the technique and I think it’s beautiful. It’s in my Top 10 Favourite Tangle Patterns of 2022 because I have really enjoyed using it in tiles this year. They have made for some wonderful gifts.

In Position 6 is 1, 2, 3 O’Leary by Antonine Koval, CZT
I have had so much fun with 1, 2, 3 O’Leary by Antonine Koval, CZT this year. It’s a ribbon tangle that I just keep wanting to use. I think it’s because of the combination of elements that are within it. It has plenty of opportunity for embellishment and I find it a really fun tangle to use.

In Position 5 is Anthem by Jody Genovese, CZT
Anthem by Jody Genovese, CZT is a pattern I’ve relied on when I needed impact in a tile this year. It’s prominent, it demands your attention and it clusters beautifully…. all the reasons it’s in my Top 10 Favourite Tangle Patterns of 2022.

In Position 4 is Flux by Zentangle®
Just like Mooka 3D by Eni Oken, CZT, Flux by Zentangle® is another of my Mac and Cheese patterns. I keep coming back to it, I keep using it. It’s become so familiar to me that I slip it in without even realising I’m doing it! See what I mean…

In Position 3 is Sand Swirl by Karry Heun
Oh Sand Swirl…. Sand Swirl by Karry Heun is a pattern I love! This is one of those patterns that looks good anywhere! I love the way it looks shaded, I love it’s overlapping power, it’s shape and the way it can be used to fill or be focal. It’s a fantastic pattern!

In Position 2 is Diva Dance by Zentangle®
Diva Dance by Zentangle® is a pattern as old as the hills, but I’ve gotten attached to it this year like never before! I find myself unable to draw straight lines anymore, I’m always wanting to give them the Diva Dance touch! It’s why it’s got the number 2 position in my Top 10 Favourite Tangle Patterns if 2022.

And in Position 1 is Braze by Zentangle®
This is it! My favourite tangle pattern of 2022! Oh Braze…. What a pattern you are. Braze by Zentangle® is a pattern that I’ve used for impact so many times this year. I love its drama and its beauty.
I love how it can snake its way across a tile or stand strong and firm on its own. It lifts a tile. It takes a tile from ordinary to amazing and it’s why it’s got the the number 1 position on my Top 10 Favourite Tangle Patterns of 2022.
