Hi everyone and welcome back to another week on the Chrissie Murphy Designs blog. The big news this week is Inktober’s coming!! It starts in 4 days, on October 1, so today is a short post as I’m going to run through what’s happening. There’s some things you’re gonna need to be aware of, so you know What to Expect for Inktober 2018, cos I want you to join me for the ride. So let’s get into it.
Hang on, what’s Inktober?
It’s an art movement started by Jake Parker in 2009 with some really simple rules. First you make a drawing in ink, then you post it to social media and hashtag it with #Inktober. Repeat this process everyday for the month of October. The Inktober website says, “Inktober is about growing and improving and forming positive habits, so the more you’re consistent the better.”
And I can testify to that! Throughout this blog post you’ll find pics from my past Inktober’s. I really have grown and improved in the month of Inktober every single time I’ve participated. If you want to improve in an area of your art, then commit to it for Inktober and see where you are at the end of the month.
So now you know what it’s about, let’s talk about what to expect for Inktober 2018.
First up, I’m shutting the blog for the month of October
I know! It’s huge!! But it’s gotta happen because Inktober is intense. There is no way I will be able to maintain blogging and create everyday for Inktober. I have a family with kids still at home and a full time day job, so there’s just not enough hours in the day for me to do both.
Having said that, there will be an Artist Interview…
I will still have an Artist Interview on the second Thursday in October, and you don’t want to miss it, because you will be inspired! I guarantee it! I’ll keep you updated on this as things get closer. This will be the only blog post I’m releasing for October, so stay tuned.
You’ve gotta follow me on Facebook or Instagram to see my Inktober posts
I will be sharing my work to my Facebook page and Instagram accounts everyday in October. If you want to follow along please make sure you like and follow my accounts. But here’s the thing, don’t just follow me either, while you’re on Facebook or Insta, search for #Inktober2018 and have a look at the work that’s out there, then go and follow some of artists you discover.
Hundreds of thousands of artists participate in Inktober now, it’s a huge event. I love the idea of the internet being flooded with art for a month, it makes me so happy. One way to support artists you love is to like and share their work, so don’t be shy! Share work that you love, hit that like button and build up your fellow artists.
Expect something different
As I said before, I can testify to how much you improve as an artist with consistent practice. I will be focusing on a different type of design for the month, to try to improve in an area I’m not confident in. I have such a love for this type of work, but I’m not really skilled or practiced, so I thought I’d commit the month to it.
So I’m putting it out there now, be prepared for ordinary work! There’s not going to be any masterpieces, this is about artistic development, so there’s gonna be mistakes. And… at this stage I plan to be working in black ink only, so the Prismacolor’s will have a rest.
So that’s What to Expect for Inktober 2018
This is all I’m sharing today about Inktober. You’ll have to join me on October 1 where I’ll be revealing my Inktober 2018 theme and focus. I’ve gotta keep something up my sleeve!
