One of the mistakes I’ve made over the years is

One of the mistakes I’ve made over the years is to rush. A new year would commence and I’d move as quick as I could to get into all I wanted to do. I was so fired up!! But lately the Lord has been impressing upon me the beauty of slowness.
.
I’ve come to believe I’ve missed a lot in my excitement to rush. I haven’t taken the opportunity, when I had it, to smell the roses, to touch every part of something, to hear every layer of noise or to savour what I was really tasting. I just rushed to get to where I was going. And in doing so I’ve missed a huge part of the process along the way. .
.

You might be wondering what’s going on, why I’m not drawing.... well the truth is, this year I’m not rushing. Instead, I’m taking my time to enjoy the process. I’m spending time with the Lord, listening to what He wants to do this year through my work. I’m planning how the year will look, how my weeks will look and I’m making notes and lists. I’ll get there, I’m just not rushing things.
.
We only get one chance at the life we have and I’m committed to savouring every moment the Lord has for me. It means embracing the process. And it means slowing down and moving with deliberation in everything I do. .

Three things I hope to gain by the end of the year

A new year of journalling gets underway. With it comes so much possibility, I’m drawn to that. Today’s prompt is to journal about three things you hope to gain by the end of the year. These aren’t necessarily goals, they’re hopes, what you hope to gain. Proverbs 13:12 says that “Delayed hope makes the heart sick, but fulfilled desire is a tree of life.” Let’s write down our hopes, the things we are looking to gain this year, knowing that in fulfilment they’re going to bring us life. 📖

Happy New Year friends! A new year brings with it

Happy New Year friends!
A new year brings with it the opportunity for change, new beginnings and defining intentions. With that in mind, Chrissie Murphy Designs is having a much needed makeover!

Tonight I am going to be sharing about my word for the year. This little makeover falls into line with one of the things I’m wanting to pursue this year... which is truth. And no, truth is not my word. .
.

You see, my previous photography setup was staged. There’s nothing wrong with that, except it’s not the truth. You could be forgiven for thinking I had white marble bench tops and a white timber slat table where I photographed my work. But really, it’s just a couple of pieces of A3 cardstock that I covered in pretty contact. Again, nothing wrong with that, it’s served me and my photography very well over the last few years.
.
But..... I’ve been convicted about presenting the truth. If you read my blog post about what I learned in 2019, you’ll recall that I learned that I can live with one pair of shoes and no one treated me any differently!! I know, crazy..... but it was something I really needed to learn (by experience) for myself. I have learned that people see and treat you for who you are, not what you have. I was living deceived, believing I needed all the things, but now I see the truth and I’m grateful.
.
This little revelation got me wondering about other things I was buying into... and staged photography was one of them. So 2020 will see more authentic photography accompany my work. Yes, I do have black marble-like benchtops and they’re actually quite beautiful. .
.

From today onwards my blog and socials shall move to a darker look, which is more truthful with what you’ll see when you come and visit my studio - lots of timber and black marble. I hope you like the makeover that will be rolled out over January as I seek to refine all I do. .

It’s so easy to feel like you’re stunted, not going anywhere, but when you stop and take stock of all you’ve learned, you start to see your growth.... and growth is good! Well would ya look at that... the year is nearly over! I’d love to wish you all a very merry Christmas. I’d also like to let you know how grateful I am for all of your support and encouragement throughout the year.

Those little comments and likes you make throughout the year add up. They increase in worth and value and toward the end of the year when I feel like it’s all getting too hard, they’re like little gold nuggets that bring me renewed hope. I can’t begin to tell you how important that is! I believe this is what I’m called to do, and when it feels like it’s getting all too hard, they help to keep me going. .

You guys mean the world to me. I hope that in at least one way, I’ve been able to provide you with something that’s helped, encouraged or guided you when you needed it this year. I hope I’ve been able to reciprocate and provide you with one thing that’s of worth and value. To me, that’s all that matters. .

My deepest wishes for a Christmas that’s meaningful, peaceful, joyful and enriching for you. I pray it’s full of revelation. God bless you my friends xx

Today starts another of my favourite weeks of the year, Reflection Week (aka the week between Christmas and New Years). This is a time I treasure. For me it’s a time of very deep reflection of what’s worked and what hasn’t over the last year. It’s also about honing in on what I want to see in the following year, the directions I want to take and those I want to avoid. I begin it by looking at what the most valuable thing I’ve learned in the last year has been. 📖
Spend some time journalling about the most valuable thing you’ve learned this year. It will start to set the stage for how you’ll move into and through the next year. .
