An announcement 📣 and some more work in progress on this incredible building… 😀

I’ve enjoyed bringing in some of the strong lines that identify this amazing #ArtDeco building on the #CassowaryCoast. Repetitive geometric shapes and vertical lines define the Art Deco movement, and my portrayal narrows in on some of this buildings most beautiful lines.

I am extremely fortunate to live in a part of North Queensland that is renown for Art Deco architecture. For so long I have taken what I have on my doorstep for granted, but recently my heart has changed. I want to be actively loving my community because I believe that’s how you love your neighbour as yourself. This area has much to treasure, much to honor, much to encourage and much to love. I'm in a position to be able to embrace that as an artist and give voice to the community I love, the Cassowary Coast.

Tonight I am announcing the beginning of my first art collection. My collection of artwork will embody the magnificent Buildings of the Cassowary Coast.

Over the next year or so, I will be sharing progress as I work on this collection that honors the area in which I live. I am looking forward to introducing this beautiful area to you and having you join me as I work on this collection.

Some work in progress for you this week… 😀

A few weeks ago I started this drawing 🏫 It’s of another building I’m incredibly fond of… but I’ll have more about that in another post.

I thought I’d share about colour instead today. This building is located in the heart of Australia’s Art Deco capital - Innisfail on the #CassowaryCoast. In #ArtDeco design, the colours that are used on buildings are just as important as the materials used to build them. They become part of the buildings story.

By taking colours that are featured in this building and emphasising their importance, it sees them dominate this piece of art. It’s a different retelling…. but it’s the same story. And it’s one I’m looking forward to sharing with you 🙌

“Home” is finally home… 🙂

I can’t begin to tell you how great it was to pick up ‘Home’ from Art Print Frame at Mission Beach a couple of weeks ago. Roger has done an amazing job of framing this beautiful piece 👏👏

This piece has meant so much to me. It’s honouring a place I love and it’s hanging right inside the front door of my home. I find myself gazing at it daily, being encouraged.

So this week I’m sharing the 🫣 behind-the-scenes pics from the silouhette of my daughter that I recently finished.

Brooke is someone who loves music 🎼 She has been playing the 🎺trumpet and 🎸guitar for many years. It’s a major focus of her life. 👈🏼 Keep swiping left to see Brooke’s trumpet and guitar. Her guitar is super special 💖

The vinyls in Brooke’s hair are not hers. They belong to some friends of mine 🙏🏼 who kindly let me photograph them. In this piece they are symbolic of the love Brooke has for music.

If you swipe through the pics, you’ll see the thumbnails I created to explore the colour schemes I might use. I was originally leaning toward creating Brooke’s silouhette in a pink and red tone, but after thumbnailing, I changed my mind and we went with blue 😃 I like it, but most importantly Brooke does too.

There were less layers in Brooke’s piece compared to Zac’s. But just like Zac’s I really enjoyed the process of creating elements for it 👩🏼‍🎨 Winding music through Brooke’s hair was fun and I love the final result. 😃 I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing some of these behind-the-scenes pics and learning a little about how they came together.

So, I thought you might like to see some of the 🫣 behind-the-scenes pics from each of the silouhette’s I recently finished.

First up is the one of my son, Zac. Zac is a NASCAR and 🏁 V8 Supercars fan and he loves old school video games 🎮 A few years ago, he won an award for his cartoon drawing 🥇He has such a gift for cartooning, his work carries such happiness and joy! I’d dearly love to see more of it.

If you swipe through the pics, you’ll see this piece has some under-collage made from Zac’s cartoon drawings. They were toned down with gesso, and then treated with watercolour to become the basis for his face 😃

The cars that are featured in Zac’s hair are personal photographs of some of his favourite die-cast cars. Zac has been collecting die-cast cars for quite a few years and he has a serious collection! There’s a pic of it if you’d like to see it too 👈🏼 just keep swiping left.

I really enjoyed the process of melding elements for this piece 👩🏼‍🎨 It was something super different and I’m very happy with the final result. 😃 I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing some of these behind-the-scenes pics and learning a little about how it came together.
