A Travelling Tangle with Marta Blanco, CZT

Hi and welcome back to the Chrissie Murphy Designs Blog. Today I have a Travelling Tangle with Marta Blanco, CZT to share with you. This is my second travelling tangle, and just like the fist, I have thoroughly enjoyed the process. Let’s get into it, so I can share this experience with you.

What is a Travelling Tangle?

A travelling tangle is where I tangle on one part of a tile and then send it to someone else. The other person does the same thing for me. And then we finish each other’s tiles.

So this Travelling Tangle is with Marta Blanco, CZT from Spain. Marta’s Instagram profile is @lamaretas if you want to visit and check out her account.

What Marta sent me

What did Marta send me?

Marta’s little package was such a delight! I loved the little package she created that tied together with ribbon at the side.

She sent this little bijou trinket which I absolutely adore. It’s sitting on top of my desk right now.

What Marta sent me

Marta’s tile is classic zentangle with the addition of a gem…. which is stunning I might add. Her shading is soft, and her linework is fine. It’s such a contrast to how I work 😀

In some ways I kind of didn’t want to touch it, as it was perfect as it was! It’s such a beautiful tile. Adding to it was a real challenge for me.

So what approach did I take to finish the Travelling Tangle?

Just like my first travelling tangle, I wanted my component to blend and morph with Marta’s to be one cohesive tile.

This was a challenge for me, as my own way of tangling has changed over the years. I’m so much heavier with how I shade and mark compared to Marta, but I was determined to create a tile that honoured her foundation. Her tile was so beautiful to begin with.

Marta’s gem is glorious, and I didn’t want to do anything that might detract from it. I wanted it to remain the focus of our tile and I believe I’ve achieved that.

I continued to tangle the tile as if I was Marta. By using the tangles she’d already used and simply widening the area of tangling, I was able to create something cohesive.

What tools did I use for this Travelling Tangles Tile?

This was a classic zentangle tile for me, so I used the following tools:

  • Signo uniball gel Pens in Black
  • Graphite pencil
  • White chalk pencil
  • Tortillon
  • White gel pen

What size is our Travelling Tangle?

It measures 3.5 inches x 3.5 inches
