The Jesus Butterfly

Hi and welcome back to the Chrissie Murphy Designs Blog. I have another piece of work to show you today. I’m calling it The Jesus Butterfly, you’ll see why in a second. Let’s have a look at some pictures and I’ll tell you a bit about the piece. But first…

The original butterfly design is Eni Oken’s

If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know I used to be in Eni Oken’s Art Club. It’s a worthwhile subscription if you’re keen to develop your tangling and art. The basis of this butterfly design and technique is created by Eni Oken (not me) and a link to her website where you can access her lesson is here.

Let’s look at The Jesus Butterfly

It’s a mixed media piece measuring 148 x 210mm which was mounted in a frame. This piece has a very cool toned palette that I used watercolour and coloured pencils to enhance. Into its foundations, and embedded into the fabric of the design is Jesus. He forms the central focus of the butterfly, and is layered into its wings.

Jesus is a very big part of Amanda’s life. Having some art that symbolises Him as the centre of it all was important to her. Jesus is woven into the foundations of this piece and I used techniques of stamping and handwriting to achieve this. Jesus is also woven into the fabric of Amanda’s life so having Him embedded into the foundations of the piece is symbolic of her faith. You can see where His name is declared in a few places in the piece below.

And here it is with Amanda. I know she adores the piece and it’s been such an honour to create for her.

Believe it or not, this piece is already changing the atmosphere. Look at how it’s changed Amanda’s benchtop. It brings so much beauty to this space she’s prepared. As time goes on, the power of Jesus to change the atmosphere in her life will only increase.

Are you after a customised piece of art too?

While I can’t create another butterfly, I can create any other customised piece of art you need. The Lord created the Heavens and the Earth in six days through the power of words. What He believed and what He spoke was manifested. He physically changed the atmosphere. Earth, with all its flora, fauna and mankind was created as the Lord spoke “Let there be…”.

I believe in the power of art to create and change atmospheres too, because what we speak and what we believe manifests. It’s like that saying, “as a man thinketh, so is he”. What we think and say has power to change the atmosphere around us, and it can do so both negatively and positively.

I think there’s no greater gift than something that’s been made and designed specifically with that in mind. If your heart is for someone, you will want to see them prosper, thrive and flourish. So why not speak positivity and destiny for them and help to change the atmosphere around them through art?

And if not for a friend, what about yourself?

Is there something you’re battling and you need change in? Is there something you’re hoping for, a desire you wish to see come to fruition? What do you want to declare over yourself? Let’s speak and believe for it through art.

Every piece I create has the things we’re speaking and believing for embedded into its foundations. It’s then added, and built upon, layer by layer, until the entire piece is saturated.
