My Focus Word for 2020

Hi and welcome back to the second post in one day on the Chrissie Murphy Designs blog! Tonight, as promised, I’m sharing my focus word for 2020. This is the second year where I’ve had a focus word that’s shaped and underpinned my year. Last year, my word was Alignment and looking back on 2019, I feel like this actually happened in many areas. I’m so grateful to the Lord for all He’s done and the alignment He’s brought to my life.

My focus word of 2020 - Refine

With that being said, my focus word for 2020 is REFINE

This year my focus word is Refine. Everything that’s happened over the last year, all that I’ve learned and developed, I now seek to have refined in this coming year.

There’s a quote by James E Faust that sums up my heart on this perfectly.

For some, the Refiner’s Fire causes a loss of belief and faith in God, but those with eternal perspectives understand that such refining is part of the perfection process.

James E Faust

So my focus this year is on refining. I will work to refine what I can, and allow myself to be refined by the Lord everywhere else.

Voyager Notebook, Planner and Journal Setup for 2020

And it begins with Facebook Live

Friday morning at 9am AEST, I am holding my first Facebook Live event where I will be sharing my journal and planner setup for this year. The focus page you see in this post is from my Voyager Notebook, which I’ve set up as a planner and journal this year.

I have spent quite a bit of time focusing on refining my journalling and planning for this year, and I’m keen to show you all what I’ve established.

There’s a verse in Proverbs that I’ve shared before, (because I love it) that says “without vision people perish”. I plan my year with the Lord at the centre, because I believe His word. Without vision, my year is dead. When we get together and dream about what we can achieve, I have vision. And I record this vision in my journal and in my planner. This whole process is one I’m refining and I’m allowing Him to refine me in it. I hope you can join me Friday where I share what I’ve done so far. Head to the Facebook Event here to get yourself a reminder, and come and join me.

Have you set yourself a focus word?

After seeing my Focus Word work for me last year, I’m committed to beginning each year with a focus word. You know, the Lord spoke words and the creation of the earth happened. Words are powerful my friend. What you speak over yourself is powerful.

So the question is…. have you set yourself a focus or a theme word for this year? A word that overarches your year, your intentions, all you set out to achieve and do. I encourage you to. Who knows where you’ll be by the end of 2020, but perhaps with focus you’ll be closer than ever to what you truly seek.

Thank you Susan, it’s such a joy xx

  2. Great focus word! I haven’t come up with a word for 2020. My word for 2019 was “increase” – which turned out to be not at all what I expected it to be. So I’m considering using the same word again this year with a new perspective from experiences this past year. “..He must increase, I MUST DECREASE”.

Oooh that is good. I love how we can have a sense of where we want to head, but ultimately He directs our path and steers us towards our best. I pray that whatever you decide, your year is fruitful xx

      1. You too and thank you!

  3. Your journaling page is so beautiful! One day I’ll have the time to pick up journaling again.

  7. I am journaling and using 2 planners this year, for this scatterbrained, can’t organize for the life of me girl that’s huge! Pray for me that I can stay consistent with it this year.

I have a blog post coming up too about a specific type of journal entry I do each night. May we all allow the refiner’s fire to work in our lives with that eternal perspective!!
